All of our cards are smart cards. Smart cards contain a small microprocessor embedded in the plastic card. The microprocessor is underneath the gold or silver colored plate on the surface of the card. The microprocessor is surrounded by protective packaging that makes it very difficult for someone to actually get to the microprocessor without damaging it irreversibly.

Each of our cards contains a number of 3DES (Triple DES) cryptographic keys. Each of these keys play a part in ensuring that our cards only participate in our transactions and that, when a transaction is completed, we can be sure that the resulting information sent to us is accurate. The keys also assist in keeping any sensitive information stored on the card safe from those who might wish to see it.

When a PXT card first participates in a transaction it must first authenticate itself to one of our merchant terminals or a parking meter. As part of this process the card ensures that the terminal or parking meter is valid and likewise the terminal ensures itself that the card is valid. If both parties are authentic the transaction will proceed.

When the transaction is complete both the terminal or parking meter and the card uniquely sign the resulting information to generate a digital signature. This signature is a function of all of the important information in the transaction (such as the amount, the card used, the terminal used) to prove that the transaction took place.

Furthermore, to ensure that your personal information is safe, we do not store any information about you on the card. If your card is lost or stolen then no information about you is disclosed. The PXT card can in no way be used as part of an identity theft scam against you.
