When the BID in a major city was looking for a local loyalty and discount card for use in downtown stores and businesses it conducted extensive research into the public's receptiveness of such a solution. The following question was asked of local residents and visitors:

“The city’s merchants are considering offering a Downtown Loyalty Card that would allow customers to receive discounts and specials but also could serve as a pre-paid debit card at participating merchants, would you be inclined to use a card like this to obtain discounts at local merchants?”

51% of respondents aged between 18-34 answered Yes. The total answering favorably accross all age groups was 36% - they would be inclined to use such a card - with a nearly even split between male and female respondents.
